Saying how I feel with feelings faces

LNF: Literacy → Speaking → Purpose

What this is

A finished Year 1 activity sheet and a filled-in listening record, with notes on what to look for. The pupil, Cerys, is invented. Every pupil’s answers will be different: there are no wrong answers. What matters is what pupils say, so judge speaking from the listening record, using the sheet to remind you what each pupil talked about.

1. Feelings faces

Trace the word under each face. Colour the box under the face that shows how you feel today.

happy
sad
cross
worried
excited

2. I feel happy when…

Draw something that makes you feel happy. Tell your partner about it.

I feel happy when I play football with Taid.

3. I like, I don’t like

Colour the thumb up if you like it. Colour the thumb down if you don’t. Tell your partner why.

football
reading a book
carrots
swimming
a bath
riding a bike

4. What helps?

When I feel sad, cross or worried, these can help. Circle the one that helps you most.

take a slow, deep breath
have a hug
talk to a grown-up
a quiet time with a book
