dcf.cymru stimulus sheet · Health and Well-being · Year 6
Ysgol Penrhos, Class 6, the pupils and every number on this sheet are invented for practice. The drinks advice is from the NHS.
The Healthy Schools group at Ysgol Penrhos, a primary school near Pwllheli, asked 6 pupils in Class 6 to record how many cups of water they drank during the school day (09:00 to 15:15) for one week. Each school cup holds 200 ml. Drinks at home, at breakfast and at tea were not recorded. Milk and other drinks were not recorded.
The group wants to put the results into a spreadsheet so they can find totals and means quickly.

A spreadsheet is a grid. Columns have letters (A, B, C …) and rows have numbers (1, 2, 3 …). Each box is a cell, named by its column and row, for example C4. A formula always starts with =.
| Formula | What it does |
|---|---|
=SUM(B2:F2) | Adds up every cell from B2 to F2 (B2, C2, D2, E2 and F2). |
=AVERAGE(B2:F2) | Finds the mean: adds up B2 to F2, then divides by how many cells there are (5). |
=MAX(G2:G7) | Finds the biggest number from G2 to G7. It gives the number, not the name. |
=MIN(G2:G7) | Finds the smallest number from G2 to G7. |
The colon : means “from … to”. B2:F2 goes along a row. B2:B7 goes down a column.
