Weekend voicemails from Villebrune: reader cards

Written for practice. Villebrune is an invented town in France. The pen pals, their school and their messages are invented.

Cover teacher: how to use these cards

Print this sheet single-sided, one copy per pair. Page 1 is Reader card A (messages 1 to 3). Page 2 is Reader card B (messages 4 to 6). Give Pupil A page 1 and Pupil B page 2. Pupils keep their card face down on the desk when they are not reading, so the listener never sees the words they are listening to. Nobody needs to speak French: the “Say it like this” column spells every sentence with English sounds.

Reader card A: messages 1 to 3

Your job: you are the voicemail. Read each message aloud to your partner twice. The first time, read slowly. The second time, read at a normal speed. Wait until your partner has finished writing before you start the next message. Do not show your partner this card, and do not translate for them.
