LNF: Numeracy → Understanding the number system helps us to represent and compare relationships between numbers and quantities → Calculation
What this practises: adding two groups to find how many altogether, one more and one less, the different ways to make 10, and taking away to find how many are left. Every question uses pictures of fruit kebabs, a healthy snack, so pupils can count.
Print: the activity sheet (page 2 of this file), one per pupil. Pupils need a pencil and red and green colouring pencils. Counters or cubes help pupils who need to move objects. No computers are needed.
Run: 5 min Step 1, count to 10 in Welsh and English · 12 min Step 2, Task 1 · 10 min Step 3, Task 2 · 15 min Step 4, Task 3 · 10 min Step 5, Task 4 · 8 min Step 6, all the ways to make 10. Total 60 minutes.
Collect: the activity sheets. Quick checks: Task 1 3 + 2 = 5, 4 + 3 = 7, 2 + 6 = 8, 5 + 5 = 10; Task 2 7 and 8; Task 3 any 4 different pairs that make 10, with the colouring matching the numbers; Task 4 5 and 4.
