Crediting art in an online class gallery

DCF: Citizenship → Digital rights, licensing and ownership

Name: Class: Date:

Cover teacher: you need no subject knowledge

What this practises: knowing when it is fine to use someone else’s art online, spotting the copyright symbol © and watermarks, and giving credit to the artist. Pupils also write credit labels and a message asking permission, so their capital letters, full stops, question marks, commas in lists and apostrophes can be marked from the sheet.

Print: this sheet, one per pupil, and the stimulus sheet “Class 3 online gallery: the six pictures”, one between two (colour if you can). No computers are needed.

Run: 5 min read the stimulus sheet aloud together · 8 min Step 1 · 12 min Step 2 · 10 min Step 3 · 10 min Step 4 · 8 min Step 5 · 5 min Step 6. Total 58 minutes.

Collect: this sheet. Steps 1, 2 and 6 show the digital rights learning. Steps 3, 4 and 5 are the literacy evidence: mark capital letters for names and sentence starts, full stops, the question mark in the message to Mali, commas in the list and one apostrophe (I’ll, don’t, it’s). Quick check for Step 2: Yes: A and F. Only if they say yes: B and D. No: C and E.
