GCSE Computer Science

Mae disgrifiad y cymhwyster yn Saesneg yn unig, gan ei fod wedi ei gymryd o fanyleb Saesneg CBAC.

Numeracy is heavy and specific: learners convert between denary, binary and hexadecimal, add in binary, work with base 2 storage units, calculate image, sound and compressed file sizes and routing costs, and reason with truth tables and DIV and MOD. Literacy centres on close reading of the Unit 2 scenario and requirements, precise technical vocabulary, short and extended judgement answers in Unit 1, and code annotation and test commentaries. The single biggest thing Key Stage 3 should build is fluent place value in base 2 and base 16, so that storage and file size calculations become routine.

Sgiliau sy'n defnyddio Siarad cydweithredol

  1. Discussing the impact of computing and AI

Asesu: Yn cael ei addysgu, ond nid ei asesu

The specification expects discussion of the impact of the latest AI tools and collaborative teamwork, and Appendix A ticks speaking and listening for both units. These experiences are not directly assessed.

Llythrennedd: Siarad cydweithredol, Gofyn cwestiynau, Eglurder a geirfa, Diben

    Paratoi disgyblion

    Blwyddyn 7
Pupils take roles such as parent, pupil and headteacher in a short group discussion on screen time rules, building on each other's points.
    Blwyddyn 8
Pupils pair program a Scratch task as driver and navigator, swapping every ten minutes and explaining each choice aloud using the correct terms.
    Blwyddyn 9
Pupils hold a structured class debate on whether AI should mark coursework, using evidence from two short articles and responding to the other side.

    Cam cynnydd 3
    • Rwy'n gallu ystyried materion heriol neu ddadleuol drwy amrywiaeth o gyd-destunau dilys, gan gynnwys cynnal rôl.

    • Rwy'n gallu gofyn ac ateb cwestiynau, gan adeiladu ar syniadau pobl eraill mewn trafodaethau grŵp a'u datblygu.

    • Rwy'n gallu mynegi materion a syniadau'n glir gan ddefnyddio geirfa sy'n benodol i faes dysgu a phrofiad/disgyblaeth ac enghreifftiau.

    Cam cynnydd 4
    • Rwy'n gallu defnyddio sgiliau siarad mewn amrywiaeth o gyd-destunau dilys er mwyn ystyried materion heriol neu ddadleuol.

    • Rwy'n gallu cynnal safbwynt argyhoeddiadol, gan ragweld safbwyntiau eraill ac ymateb iddyn nhw.

    • Rwyf wedi cael profiad o ystod o eirfa sy'n benodol i faes dysgu a phrofiad/disgyblaeth a geirfa academaidd gyffredinol, ac yn gallu ei defnyddio wrth i mi gyfathrebu.

    Cam cynnydd 5
    • Rwy'n gallu ystyried materion heriol neu ddadleuol yn hyderus ac yn gyson drwy gynnal rolau mewn sefyllfaoedd, cyd-destunau a dibenion ffurfiol.

    • Rwy’n gallu trefnu'r hyn sy'n cael ei ddweud yn effeithiol er mwyn gwerthuso'n feirniadol ac ymateb i’r hyn rwyf wedi’i glywed, ei ddarllen neu ei weld.

    • Rwy'n gallu defnyddio ystod o eirfa sy'n benodol i ddisgyblaeth a geirfa academaidd gyffredinol wrth i mi gyfathrebu.

Cysylltiadau â chymwysterau eraill

Place value, powers, ratio and percentage reduction are taught in Mathematics, so agreeing shared language (for example 'column value' and 'simplest form') with the Mathematics department in Years 7 to 9 will help pupils transfer these skills to binary and file size work.
