GCSE Geography
Mae disgrifiadau'r TGAU yn Saesneg yn unig, gan eu bod wedi eu cymryd o fanyleb Saesneg CBAC.
Geography asks learners to read and judge sources for bias, plan and evaluate a fieldwork enquiry, and write extended answers that reach a justified decision, all using precise geographical terms. Its numeracy is broad and applied: map scale, grid references and contours, sampling, averages and spread, percentage change, and drawing and interpreting graphs, all set out in Appendix B and used in every unit. The biggest thing Key Stage 3 should build is the habit of turning real local data into a correct graph and then a written conclusion that quotes the figures.

Map skills: grid references, scale, distance and height
Learners give four and six figure grid references, measure distance with the scale line, estimate area on OS maps at 1:25,000 and 1:50,000, and use contours, spot heights, gradient and cross sections. Map distance is also a named processing technique in the fieldwork enquiry.
Rhifedd: Safle, Mesur, Siâp a gofod, Cyfrifiad, Ongl, Cymhwysedd strategol, Cyfathrebu â symbolau, Dealltwriaeth gysyniadol
Paratoi disgyblion
- Blwyddyn 7
- Pupils give four and six figure grid references for the school, their own street and Aberdare Park on a 1:25,000 OS map of the Cynon Valley.
- Blwyddyn 8
- Pupils use the scale line and a strip of paper to measure the straight and road distance from school to Dare Valley Country Park, converting centimetres to kilometres, and draw a cross section across the valley.
- Blwyddyn 9
- Pupils measure the same route on 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 maps, estimate the area of a local reservoir by counting grid squares, and calculate the gradient of a hill road from contour heights.

Cam cynnydd 3
Rwy'n gallu defnyddio cyfeirnodau grid i nodi lleoliad.
Rwy'n gallu trosi unedau metrig o hyd i unedau llai, e.e. cm i mm, m i cm, km i m.
Rwy'n gallu dod o hyd i arwynebedd drwy gyfrif sgwariau, gan ddatblygu i gyfrifo arwynebedd sgwariau a phetryalau drwy ddefnyddio fformiwlâu.
Cam cynnydd 4
Rwy'n gallu defnyddio cymarebau a chyfrannau gan gynnwys graddfeydd map.
Rwy'n gallu cymhwyso dealltwriaeth o gyfeiriannau a graddfa i ddehongli mapiau a chynlluniau, ac i greu cynlluniau a lluniadau wrth raddfa.
Rwy'n gallu defnyddio'r unedau mesur cyffredin, trosi rhwng unedau cysylltiedig y system fetrig a chwblhau cyfrifiadau.
Cam cynnydd 5
Rwy'n gallu nodi, mesur neu gasglu'r wybodaeth sy'n ofynnol er mwyn cwblhau'r dasg.
Rwy'n gallu defnyddio nodiant, symbolau ac unedau mesur priodol, gan gynnwys mesurau cyfansawdd.
Rwy'n gallu defnyddio fy nealltwriaeth o strwythurau sylfaenol mathemateg a'u cymhwyso mewn cyd-destunau gwahanol.

Designing data collection and sampling
Learners design primary data collection sheets, choose and justify sites, sample size and a sampling method (opportunistic, random, stratified or systematic), and use equipment to get accurate, reliable readings.
Rhifedd: Casglu data, Mesur, Cymhwysedd strategol
Paratoi disgyblion
- Blwyddyn 7
- Pupils design a tally sheet and count pedestrians at three points around the school at the same time for ten minutes.
- Blwyddyn 8
- Pupils design an environmental quality scoring sheet and use systematic sampling every 50 metres along a street in Aberdare town centre.
- Blwyddyn 9
- Pupils design a questionnaire to test a hypothesis about how far pupils travel to school, then compare random and stratified samples from the year group and justify their sample size.

Rwy'n gallu casglu data perthnasol i ateb cwestiynau a ofynnwyd.
Rwy'n gallu darllen a dehongli graddfeydd neu raniadau ar amrywiaeth o offerynnau mesur.
Cam cynnydd 4
Rwy'n gallu casglu fy nata fy hun ar gyfer arolwg, e.e. drwy lunio holiadur.
Rwy'n gallu cynllunio sut i gasglu data er mwyn profi rhagdybiaeth syml.
Rwy'n gallu casglu data meintiol ac ansoddol.
Cam cynnydd 5
Rwy'n gallu casglu data mewn ffordd addas yn unol â'm rhagdybiaeth.
Rwy'n gallu nodi pa wybodaeth bellach allai fod yn ofynnol a dewis pa wybodaeth sydd fwyaf priodol.
Da gwybod
- No marks for spelling, punctuation and grammar are mentioned anywhere in the specification. All marks sit under AO1 to AO4 (Section 3.1, page 36), and AO3 "Analyse, evaluate, or make judgements from a variety of sources" is worth 25% overall.
- Calculator use is not stated in the specification. Section 3 says "The Assessment Pack will include all detailed information relating to assessment" (page 36), so check the Assessment Pack for Unit 1 and Unit 3.
- Both NEA units "must be submitted digitally (they may be handwritten and scanned, or completed digitally)" (Section 3.2, pages 37 and 38), so extended writing may be handwritten.
- Unit 4 research notes are limited to "a maximum of two sides of A4 notes to be used during the assessment" (page 37).
- Unit 2 is 7 hours for 90 marks and needs one day of fieldwork "outside the classroom and school grounds" (page 37).
- Each unit says the depth of mathematical and statistical skills "is given in Appendix B on pages 44-45" (pages 10, 18, 24 and 33), but Appendix B is printed on pages 45 and 46.
