GCSE The Sciences

Mae disgrifiadau'r TGAU yn Saesneg yn unig, gan eu bod wedi eu cymryd o fanyleb Saesneg CBAC.

The Sciences (Double Award) asks learners to research and evaluate scientific information, including how the media shapes public views, to write balanced answers on ethical and environmental issues, and to write up two scientific enquiries alone under high control using precise terminology. Its numeracy demand is high across six examinations and Unit 7: equations with SI units, chemical calculations, percentages, significant figures, graphs and gradients, sampling, probability in genetics and decay, and payback costs, with standard form, rearranging equations and y = mx + c at higher tier. The single biggest thing Key Stage 3 should build is fluent, well set out calculation from practical data: correct units, substitution into equations, means and graphs, explained in precise scientific language.

Sgiliau sy'n defnyddio Cysyllteiriau a chystrawen

  1. Writing balanced evaluations of ethical and environmental issues

    Asesu: Yn yr arholiad

Analysing, interpreting and evaluating (AO3) is a quarter of the marks in every unit. Learners must write about ethical issues such as embryonic stem cells and genetic testing (pages 40 and 41) and the debate over crude oil (page 53), weighing evidence to reach a decision.

Llythrennedd: Cynllunio a threfnu ar gyfer gwahanol ddibenion, cynulleidfaoedd a chyd-destunau, Cysyllteiriau a chystrawen

    Paratoi disgyblion

    Blwyddyn 7
Pupils write a paragraph on whether more wind turbines should be built on the hills above Aberdare, giving one benefit, one drawback and a conclusion.
    Blwyddyn 8
Pupils write a balanced answer on whether single-use plastic bottles should be banned, linking points with 'however', 'whereas' and 'therefore'.
    Blwyddyn 9
Pupils write an extended answer on whether Wales should stop burning gas to generate electricity, with points for and against and a justified conclusion, then improve it against a mark scheme.
